Dutch Business Club – NED 2019 was on!

On Nov 19th , the Dutch Business Club Vancouver hosted their annual TED- inspired NED evening. We were delighted to hear a variety of speakers – James and Sean of Hammer & Tong shared their journey with Virtual Reality and how each step of their process is a new blueprint, followed by a scary and fascinating live VR demo.

Erik van der Ven educated us on the Dutch Liberation from 1945 and Hans van Haeff shared his transition form a Dutch pepper grower to a BC based Cultivation manager at Canopy Growth, an emerging Marijuana company. It was interesting to hear how our partner’s building management systems PRIVA was used for enhanced growing conditions in more efficient energy use in their green houses.

Lastly, Aart Schuurman Hess, former director of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank inspired us with his food saving social enterprise Goodly Foods. Not only does his company reduce the City’s food waste but also provides employment to people with barriers.

The evening was well attended and we at Dudoc were pleased to connect with many Dutch Businesses in Vancouver while savoring hand made stroop waffles from Damscookies. Like every year, we leave inspired by the diverse entrepreneurial stories that the Dutch Business Club brings to this event and give a special thanks to Henk Soeneke, Dutch consul general for giving a fantastic opening speech.
