Exchange with German Business Women

Just a week prior to the Dortmund delegation’s arrival, a group of German entrepreneurs, the VdU (Verband deutscher Unternehmerinnen), visited Vancouver and Dudoc. The Trade Mission was organized in collaboration with the Canadian Women Entrepreneurs’ Association and the Vancouver Economic Commission after a successful exchange in November 2018 in Hamburg and Stuttgart.

Their experience in Canada included 5 eventful days through Edmonton and Vancouver where local connections were strengthened, women got to know other female entrepreneurs, found distribution partners and had many interesting discussions about gender equality and women empowerment in the start-up industry and beyond.

VdU President Jasmin Arabian-Vogel owns three companies in Hanover and wanted to learn about best practices and gender roles in Canadian business. She recaps “Germany and Canada have more in common than good trade relations worth $22 billion”. Rather, “we are culturally close” she mentions, and was delighted to visit Canada and see that equality and diversity is an integral part of business, politics, and society.

We welcomed the German delegation and were inspired by their passionate and humble knowledge-seeking approach to business and sustainability. We value trade missions in our organization and are looking forward to new developments in the coming year.
